Espresso Labs helps non-profit organization expand access to quality education in Brazil.
Education is one of the most important tools for the development of a society. Yet, in Brazil, many low-income youth face significant barriers to accessing quality education. Although the Brazilian educational system is extensive, the lack of financial resources and adequate infrastructure, as well as social inequality, prevent many talented young people from achieving excellent education.
Some private entities play a crucial role in overcoming these obstacles, one of them being a non-profit organization that identifies these young people in a vulnerable social situation and provides them with scholarships and access to development programs.
In its quest to contribute to the construction of a more just and equitable society through innovation, the organization trusted Espresso Labs to develop a platform capable of optimizing the selection process and eligibility for the programs.
The organization faced challenges in its search for a tool that would meet its scholarship program’s customization needs for questions and answers. Therefore, it was important to focus our efforts on:
- Ensuring performance and support for the flow of tens of thousands of students interested in enrolling. It is common for exam result websites to go offline, and the organization could not be another.
- Adaptation to the complexity of the profile evaluation process, both technical and socio-economic, to select programs fairly and with personalized validation for different contexts.
- Protecting all sensitive candidate documents and information, ensuring compliance with privacy and cybersecurity rules established by the LGPD.
Additionally, the system would commonly be accessed by people with outdated equipment and poor internet connection. Therefore, it would need to be lightweight and perform consistently, while maintaining all usability guidelines.
The client already had robust documentation explaining the rules of each selection process; it also provided the project teams with design references and a list of necessary features. Much of the research and immersion work was consolidated, which facilitated the project to quickly integrate the prototyping and interface design phase.
The result of this project, with ambitions to contribute to the development of young people and society, is a platform where the entire selection process is managed automatically, with total visibility of all stages and efficiency gains in a process that was previously performed manually.
Today, the organization has continuous support from the platform, which takes place every year – especially during the selection process and on test dates, where conditions can be critical.
